Fees Road Renovation Update 4





Took the door and frame to the upstairs down to put in new door. The new door will be wider and match the rest of the doors in the house.















Dad and I added 2 x 4 to the bottom of all floor/ceiling joists to stiffen them up. Also added insulation for sound deadening.











Added a 2 x 6 inch wall to hide some heat ducts in.

I don't understand how the 2x4s being placed on the joists in that manner promote stiffness. 2x4s bend easier on the broad side, like you've nailed them on, yet they're stiff on the narrow side. Thoughts?

I left that to the "Engineer" to figure out. What I am told is that extending the joist downward (or in a sense making it a bigger beam) will help the live load of the joist.
