Pressed Sandwich

Image
I've been seeing a series of photostories on pressed sandwiches, which rapidly whet both my imagination and my appetite. On a subsequent shopping trip I found the enclosed loaf on the clearance rack and had many of the ingredients already in our refrigerator or freezer, so we set off. You can find more information and descriptions in the photos captions. Clearance bread from Kroger's. The hollowing-out, which was taken a little too far. The first layer had 3 sirloin steaks and 2 sautéed onions. Then sautéed red and yellow bell peppers. Grated mozzarella cheese, 2 separate layers of bacon, spinach, and more bell peppers: It's healthy, it's practically a salad! Capped off by the hollowed out lid it measured about 8 inches high. The pressing process: Assistant sandwich constructor Sophia (note the apron) and (a hidden) Seamus on a large cutting board for 60 minutes. Pressed and cooked. Poor photo, but the finished product.
