House Progress

Image
Day 1 - Stripped the old siding off and added firring strips to all the voids. Day 2 - Nailed up some house wrap and 1/2 inch foam insulation before Dad and I started installing siding. I added the corner post on the right this morning so I could keep going with siding. Progress after end of day three. Reinstalled the eaves trough on the old addition. Tomorrow to the top!

Late summer vacation to Manistee

Attending Nick and Cori's baseball and softball games this summer allowed me to bump into a friend from elementary school, John Kebler, whom I haven't seen since his wedding 20 years ago. He reminded me that he has spoken to mom and dad about his fond memories of camping with our family up at the Manistee National Forest campground on Lake Michigan , which became the genesis for Tiffani and I to ask mom and dad to revisit camping with us there, even though they had just returned from Manistee a few weeks prior. Thus, a few weeks later, the cooperative plan was to meet up at Manistee, as mom and dad were going to arrive a day ahead of us and reserve a site next to theirs. 100 posts and going strong

Congratulations to Sarah for her graphical and narrative Colorado entry, which was the 100 th post on the Turner Family blog , and to mom as well for moving us past the century mark with her entry on Josh's football game. Thanks to all extended contributors for keeping the family close, if not geographically, then electronically.

Joshua's cheering section

Friday night Jeff organized a tail gate party in the parking lot of Neff School and grilled hot dogs and brats with other people contributing to the supper. It all was delicious. Unfortunately, Emilee had to work so Abbey's friend wore her shirt. The front of the shirt says GL FOOTBALL and the back: TURNER, next line: Part of the, next: Family and Josh's number 66. Top pic: Karen, 2 friends of Alexa's, Jeff, Alexa, Grandpa and Grandma, Aunt Jenny and 2 friends. Bottom pic: Karen, Jeff, Abbey, Alexa, Bil, Abbey's friend, Madison, Kay and Jenny. The paper said that Joshua made 6 tackles but, unfortunately, the team lost. Hopefully, they will have better luck on Thursday! Posted by Kay

1934, 1944, 1964 (or...to Colorado with Mom / Hallie)

Summer has been busy and full of comings and goings for all the 'Ohio' Turners... Here are some shots of a recent trip that Mom and I (Sarah) took to Colorado to check on her house there and attend to two bits of business: quarters that had been buried by her father (dates ranging from 1934 - 1964) and a WWII Army Jeep that he had left on the property (1944). And of course, we went for the view... The house is still sweet and small and well maintained by her current renter. I haven't included the photos of the older and more neglected buildings (the time will come soon for attending to those)... But, even the dilapidated ones have their charm...such as this detail of the garage: And an old chicken coop stores this 'gem': a 1944 Ford Army Jeep. After seaching websites devoted to the collecting and rehabilitation of such vehicles, I posted an ad to sell it. It hasn't run since 1987 and has been just sitting, but I learned that they are still very sought after
