233rd Marine Corps Ball

Last night we had a good time at the Marine Corps Birthday Ball. Don't let the windblown hair fool you, it was outside and hot! The guys did great in their wool suits, even danced a little. The couple with us are our friends Karl and Lisha Kronman, Karl is a Navy doctor here doing research on infectious diseases and Lisha is a Pharmacist also doing some work for the Navy.

International Day at Lincoln Community School

Before the Ball the kids had International Day at their school. There were over 20 food booths representing nations from all over the world and some of the best food I have ever tasted. Garrett's favorite booth was the U.K. booth, he has developed a liking for their tea. Meg was busy watching all the little ones so the mom's were free to mingle and work the booths. She is holding Grace, who was adopted by one of the U.S. Mission members when they found her in the baseball field under a cardboard box at less than a week old.

Garrett was happy to serve all his friends Koolaid from the U.S. food stand, he was the busiest guy in the booth.

Orthopedic Training Center , Adoagyiri-Nsawam, Ghana

I went on a NAWA (North American Women's Association) trip to an Orthopedic Clinic an hour north of Accra to deliver a donation check for $2300 for a machine they use to make prosthetic limbs. These gentlemen are making braces for those still suffering from Polio, although they see very few polio patients now a days. The majority of patients are car accident victims followed by birth defects and lastly folks who suffer from infections. This clinic is run by "Brother" and "Sister Elizabeth" and has been in operation for over 40 years serving about 6,000 patients a year.
Embassy Halloween Party

This is Bertha, our Ghanaian friend, after she exploded out the doors of the Haunted House, needless to say it took her breath away and she giggled the whole way home.

This is the crew before departing for the Embassy Halloween party. Meg's friend, Alicia, who is from Austraila joined us and we had fun introducing our Halloween traditions to everyone.

Elmina Castle
Jason atop Elmina Castle near Cape Coast Ghana. The castle was the largest slave trading posts in the region. We toured the castle and had lunch overlooking the inlet where all the fishing boats were coming back from a busy day at sea. By the time we left there was a lively Football match in progress in the bare section you see behind Jason.

Canopy Walk in Kakum National Park

Notice the nervous look and wet shirt... I think someone was a little nervous crossing the rope bridge.

We were so proud of Meg!

African Beach Hotel in Takrodi, Ghana
The pool was round and cool. The hotel had five small duplexes, each had one room and a bathroom. There was a nice restaurant and a great view of the Gulf but we only swam in the pool.
(This pool might bring back memories for Paul & Julie Mele.)

Pumpkin Shopping Accra Style
Delivered to the front of the embassy.
Go Carts! Accra
They had three working carts at the time we went and a suprisingly large track. The worst part of it was wearing the nasty helmets, next time I think we'll bring our own.

Chef Garrett working at the "island." I don't know what we'll do when we need the TP. The top is a leaf out of the dining room table.

Great travelogue, I was looking forward to some touristy Ghana pictures and descriptions. And while our weather cools, it appears yours gets warmer, eh?

Wonderful pix that help us understand more of your life there ! You all look so great in your party duds.

When you use the TP, just keep the boxes.
