News from Texas

Hello to all Turner Blog devotees,
We have been on South Padre Island for about 10 days now. As some of you know, we came south without the trailer and without reservations anywhere. This lack of a plan has worked well, so far. We slid into the first rental agency we came to on the island. They had a few vacancies that were available for at least a month. The second one we looked at was a spanking new duplex, across the street from the beach. We took the place for a month.
We are in the unit on the right in the photo. Parking is under the duplex. All newer buildings on the island, and in most coastal areas, are built on stilts so as to have the living areas safe from minor hurricanes and the flooding that accompanies them. The second photo shows our view of the ocean between two condo buildings that are across from us. There is also a parasail surfer going by in the photo.
I am usually out walking on the beach in the AM, and we ride bikes in the afternoon. The weather was cool and damp for several days, but has come on fine now. The next week is forecast to be in the 70's each day. This coming weekend is the big kite festival on the island. I hope to post some pictures from that event. I'll close this post here - and post more on another day.
